Upon induction of Cre-recombinase expression, loxP recombination excises the EforRED gene, allowing expression of the kanamycin-resistance gene, therefore cells can grow on kanamycin-supplemented media. Separate ribosomal binding sites and a terminator following RFP allow independent expression of both genes.
