This NLS should allow Bxb1 to be integrated into the nucleus of a eukaryotic chassis organism. Bxb1 is part of the serine integrase family, which are longer proteins and have relatively shorter identification sequences compared to tyrosine integrates. Bxb1 and φC31 are two prominent serine recombinases, and both have been shown to work within mammalian cell lines. When used as an invertase, Bxb1 identifies attB and attP sites, cuts at these sites, and inverts the DNA sequence in between these two markers.
