Sequences BBa_I742138_sequence (Version 1)

Description

B-carotene is an intermeidate in the Zeaxanthin biosynthesis pathway.

The four genes, CrtE, CrtB, CrtI and CrtY, encode four enzymes which sequentially convert farnesyl diphosphate (produced by the mevlonate pathway) into B-carotene.

More information on this biosynthesis pathway may be found on the Edinburgh Yoghurt Wiki

Notes

Two PstI sites were removed from the CrtI gene via point mutagenesis

All four genes were cloned so as to retain their native ribosome binding sites

Source

All four genes were isolated from Pantoea ananatis (formerly Erwinia uredovora)
