Sequences BBa_J119089_sequence (Version 1)

Description

This part consists of a UV promoter attached to the lacZ gene with a RBS in front of it. The promoter is activated by ultra-violet light to transcribe the lacZ gene. When plated with X-gal, the part should function as a reporter for exposure to UV light by the mechanism of lacZ cleaving X-gal to turn blue.

Notes

When ligating the sub-parts together, the plasmid containing the UV promoter opened and the lacZ w/ RBS was inserted. This is due to the small size of the UV promoter. It should be noted that the UV sub-part was found to be slightly larger than reported on the registry.
