    This enzyme is obtained fro the gene Stearoly Co-A Desaturase (SCD). The gene is obtained from Synechocystis sp., a cyanobacterium.It is involved in the biosynthesize of C18:1 from C18:0. C18:1 corresponds to Oleic acid. The delta 9 desaturase introduces cis carbon double bond on the 9th carbon in C18:0.
