Description

When the external pH value declines to 5.5, rcfB promoter will be highly upregulated. Along with that, the lacR gene, which is downstream of rcfB, will be highly transcribed. The large translation of LacR, the repressor of lac operon in Lactobacillus delbrueckii, will inhibit the use of lactose in the bacteria. And the nisI gene is a Nisin resistance gene which could be used in food.

Notes

The part is designed to let Lactobacillus bulgaricus stop producing lactic acid when the external pH declines to 5.5 or lower.

Source

The nisI gene comes from the Staphylococcus aureuis. The rcfB promoter is found in Lactococcus lactis IL1403, while the lacR gene is from Lactobacillus. delbrueckii subsp. lactis.
