Description

This is a mutant of E. coli's native thioredoxin. It has been modified to have the ability to chelate metal ions, notably nickel. This protein is useful as a fusion protein which can help to increase the solubility of difficult-to-express proteins and maximize yield of those proteins.

Notes

When used as a fusion protein, this protein is often combined with a inducible promoter such as pBAD/araC.

Source

This modified thioredoxin was produced by Zhijian Lu and collegues as described in the paper titled "Histidine Patch Thioredoxins
MUTANT FORMS OF THIOREDOXIN WITH METAL CHELATING AFFINITY THAT PROVIDE FOR CONVENIENT PURIFICATIONS OF THIOREDOXIN FUSION PROTEINS" published in 1996 in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. A link to this paper can be found here : http://www.jbc.org/content/271/9/5059.full
