Description

a Cobalt-sensitive promoter is attached to a Ribosome binding site and RFP is produced. The part is intended to detect Cobalt presence in the environment. The part is also sensitive to Nickel. Cobalt can be toxic to Humans in high concentrations and presents a danger in some situations.

Notes

Nickel also activates the genes. Nickel is in much higher concentrations in some environments like seawater. Cobalt is an allergen that can result in dermatitis in some people, however the detection does not differentiate between Nickel and Cobalt (both are potential allergens).
